The community aspect of Riverkeeper’s work is essential and gives legitimacy to our initiatives. The long-term sustainability of our protection and conservation work can only be achieved alongside an involved, educated, and empowered community.
Our goal is to invite the community to be an active part of the conservation of rivers and local ecosystems. Strengthening local pride around shared elements—like stunning landscapes, free and wild rivers, native forests, and glaciers— helps to create a common identity and appreciation for the conservation of those assets. We cultivate this involvement by hosting (and co-hosting) a wide range of community events, from educational family activities, to a kayak and leadership for local highschoolers, to public lecture series on climate change.
